MEASURE I to Improve Arcadia Schools

At the September Camino Grove PTA Meeting, the membership voted to endorse Measure I to improve Arcadia schools.  The bond measure, approved by our school board in August will improve the school facilities at EVERY school site. . Improving our schools will allow the District to improve the quality of education at all of our neighborhood schools, and continue to retain and attract high-quality teachers.   Here is a little bit about the measure:

Working with community leaders, parents, and teachers, the Arcadia Unified School District Board has placed a $218 million bond measure on the November 7th ballot.  Most of our schools are over 50 years old and are in need of major repairs and renovations.  Bond proceeds will be used to make these much-needed repairs, as well as to expand and build new classrooms and educational facilities.

Every neighborhood school – elementary, middle, and the high school – will receive upgrades and improvements by the Measure I plan adopted by the Board.  At each school, the Measure I plan calls for:

·         upgrading school libraries;

·         upgrading technology in all classrooms to enhance learning;

·         renovating/repairing restrooms to meet new standards;

·         expanding classrooms and student educational support areas; and

·         replacing fencing and smoke detectors, removing toxic materials, replacing door locks, and phone systems.

Here is what Measure I will mean to your student -

Essential upgrades will not only result in an improved appearance, but will also render our educational facilities more versatile for multiple instructional uses.

The bond would cost about $4.99 per month for every $100,000 in assessed valuation of your property (not the resale value).  Passage of Measure I will allow our schools to qualify for additional state money, stretching our local dollars. The bond also includes a provision for a Citizen Oversight Committee to assure that the money will be spent for the purposes stated and not for administrative salaries or other unauthorized purposes.
