ELEMENTARY COUNSELING The elementary counselor actively assists teachers, parents, administrators, and other staff members in helping students have the best school year possible. The elementary counseling program deals with preventive lessons as well as crisis intervention. The school counselor also works with a group of upper grade students called "Roadrunner Resolvers" who help with conflict resolution on the playground. Resource / RSP Program - Students with mild learning disabilities go through a process of testing to find out what disabilities exist. A multidisciplinary team then gets together and determines the best path to take for each individual child. The program serves students, teachers and parents in a variety of ways. First, we provide support for students in general education programs by consulting with their teachers. We help design plans that match the students' needs and abilities. Second, we work with a multidisciplinary team of teachers, specialists, parents and administrative staff to determine when students have disabilities that necessitate special education services. The team determines the best path for each child. Finally we provide help for parents in support of both special and general education programs. Students usually work in the RSP room on Individual Education Plans that are tailor made for them. They have the opportunity to work at their level using all the modalities. TITLE 1 This program provides supplemental educational and related services to children who have been identified as needing additional instruction in the areas of reading, language arts, and mathematics.
