Highland Oaks has many activities for its students.  Take a look at some of the happenings here at our school.

Student Council

Students have opportunities to experience leadership and the democratic process, and utilize fundraising and community service for the student body. A faculty member serves as the advisor. Fourth and fifth grade students are eligible to be elected as Student Council Officers twice a school year. Candidates for office learn to “campaign” and create and deliver a speech to their peers. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 may be elected to serve as Room Representative for their classrooms. The Student Council meets every other week after school or at lunch as scheduled.

Instrumental Music
All fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to select a musical instrument and receive instruction during school hours. Students in instrumental music class become members of the school orchestra and perform in a Spring Concert. All third grade students learn to play the soprano recorder (song flute).

Performing Arts
The Music and Performance program meets with each grade level of students once a week. Students are engaged in active learning including music appreciation, multi-cultural music experience, musical note reading, rhythm activities and instruments, drama, song and dance as well as exposure to an array of musicals and Broadway productions. Three teachers teach the classes as well as deliver in-class instruction to each classroom for six-week intervals. This enrichment program for all students is funded 100% from Highland Oaks parent support.

Safety Patrol

The purposes of the Safety Patrol are to promote a safe and welcoming environment for students arriving at school each morning and also to provide fourth and fifth grade students with opportunities for leadership and service to the school community. Safety Patrol students wear orange safety vests and assist at the drive-thru lane in front of the school.
