Arcadia Unified School District Technology & Information Services Department 234 Campus Drive • Arcadia, California 91007 • (626) 821-6609
September 18, 1999 Dear Parents, The Arcadia Unified School District has a strong commitment to providing
a quality education for its students, including access to and experience
with cutting-edge technology. In addition
In the past, student access to information has been managed through
District selection of printed, recorded or video materials available in
schools. On a larger scale, students have access to other libraries, radio,
television or other media that are also somewhat regulated by law and
community standards. The Internet, however, is unregulated, and open to
all types of communication, information, misinformation, propaganda and
even pornography. Students
It is imperative to establish ethical standards for the use of technology and technological resources in our schools. Students have access to all available technology resources, with guidance and support provided by teachers and staff. Direct instruction will be provided on appropriate and ethical use of these resources; students will sign an Acceptable Use Agreement annually. A copy of this Agreement is included in the school handbook or first day packet for your review. Students who choose to disregard ethical standards, demonstrated either by inappropriate behavior or poor citizenship, will be subject to discipline as outlined in the school’s discipline matrix. Your signature on the form on the reverse side of this letter indicates that you have reviewed the Acceptable Use Agreement and understand that students will be using technological resources on a daily basis. Also, your signature affirms your understanding that inappropriate use of technology will be dealt with under the terms of the school's discipline matrix for disciplinary action. Sincerely,
